The Prince of Wales,who arrived in Chandigarh today,honoured entrepreneurs at a function organised by the Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust (BYST) and CII at Punjab Raj Bhawan. Addressing the gathering,Prince Charles lauded the role of mentors in motivating the youth to adopt businesses with a thrust on environment protection,economic prosperity and social equity. He said that BYST,which was set up in 1992,had several success stories to its credit that have transformed the lives of millions of persons from the underprivileged sections of society to successful entrepreneurs.
Realising the Sikh communitys sterling role in the growth and development of the British economy,the Prince of Wales said that the Punjabi Diaspora settled in the UK,especially the Sikhs,had contributed with magnanimity to the promotion of the worldwide programmes initiated by him for the welfare of mankind. He also welcomed Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badals proposal to launch a skill development partnership programme in the state to impart training to unemployed youth so that they could be gainfully employed.
In his address,Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil conveyed to Prince Charles that the Union and state governments had formulated policies and established ministries,departments and institutions for the use of non-conventional energy sources and natural resources in a manner that would prevent environment pollution. Patil said that the need of the hour was to jointly initiate efforts by all individuals,non-governmental organizations (NGOs),the corporate world and governments to make our planet more livable,loveable,comfortable and profitable for all of us.
Speaking on the occasion,Badal sought his guidance and cooperation in supporting the unemployed youth by establishing an innovative skill development partnership programme as per the requirement of British Industry,so that trained youth can be gainfully employed in the UK. He urged Prince Charles to extend the activities of his Trust Youth Business model to Punjab and extended an invitation to BYST to set up offices in Punjab and work to support the youth in their enterprises.
Earlier,BYST Board member and former CII president Subodh Bhargav welcomed the Prince of Wales. Founding Trustee and Executive Vice-President Lakshmi V Venkatesan briefly outlined BYSTs significant achievements and its perspective plan for private sector investment in mentoring and fostering small enterprises in the informal sector through appropriate linkages.
Regional Eco-Business Ambassador Eco-Pruners Club certificates were awarded to Hitender Punyane for innovative eco-friendly cooling techniques,Amin Almel for LED lighting and tyre inflators,R Vaidyanathan for water level controllers and G Bhanu Murty for soy milk ice cream. Vaibhav Jaiswal and Amardeep Bardhan were honoured by the Prince with a cash prize of Rs10,000 for Arecanut Leaves kitchen ware and decorative items.
