Every food brand has a logo. Most have a colour palette. Some have a brand story. But the packaging — the thing that a customer physically holds, opens, smells, and disposes of — is almost always the least intentional design decision a food business makes.
In 2026, that is changing. The most considered food brands in India are treating packaging as a primary design surface. And the most interesting design decisions being made are not toward more colourful, more printed, more elaborate packaging — they are toward materials that communicate through texture, honesty, and values.
A well-designed kraft box with a one-colour stamp tells a brand story more effectively than an over-printed plastic container ever can. The material does the talking — the brand just needs to show up.
Sustainable packaging materials are fully customisable — this is a persistent misconception worth addressing. Kraft paper, bagasse containers, and areca leaf trays can all be branded with printed labels, embossed marks, stamp printing, or custom sticker design. The branding quality on kraft and uncoated natural materials is not inferior to plastic — it is different, and in most premium food contexts, more effective.
FSC-certified kraft boxes with soy-based ink printing, bagasse containers with custom printed lids, and areca leaf plates with a branded napkin tuck — these are packaging choices that are simultaneously sustainable and visually premium.
Packaging that looks and feels intentional gets photographed and shared. A takeaway order that arrives in a bagasse container with a kraft bag and a seed paper thank-you card is a social media moment. A plastic container with a printed logo sticker is not.
In a survey of food delivery customers, packaging was cited as a factor in social media sharing for over 35% of respondents — meaning more than one in three food delivery social media posts are partly prompted by packaging. Sustainable, designed packaging converts unprompted into brand communication.
At Prakritii, we supply bagasse and areca leaf products that are ready for brand customisation — and we work with food businesses to understand which packaging formats best suit their brand positioning and customer experience goals.
The most honest brand communication is the material itself. Choose one worth communicating with.
